Why do I need SEO and how long does it take?

If you own a website then at some point you will need to do SEO or your website will not be found on the first page of Google for highly searched keywords. As an account manager here at SEO Professors I’ve come across so many great looking websites where the company or owner must have spent thousands of dollars to create only to not find them on the first page of Google.

I’m sure your thinking, “What’s the point of having a great looking website if users can’t find it?”

However even more surprising is to see that most of these great looking websites are not even SEO friendly. Most were built to look nice to the eye but not coded properly for search engine top ranking.

What I have learned from speaking with many website owners is that they just did not know. That the web design company that built their site never talked to them about SEO or search engine rankings.

This is very common and very sad as it’s not that difficult to create an SEO friendly website.

Here at SEO professors I spend about 70% of my time either on the phone or on my email talking with new and existing clients about what needs to be done to create a custom SEO program for their website. Most have no clue about SEO or how important it is. I often say, it’s better to have a poor looking website that ranks on the first page of Google than an amazing website on page 8.

So how long does SEO take?

To create a new website might take a week or two, getting ranked on the first page of Google will take months, if not years (depending on how competitive the keywords are). SEO is a time consuming process that many of our clients just don’t have the time to do. This is a good thing because there are a lot of people out there who think they know SEO, but really do not. I think is fair to say that it’s a good thing that SEO takes time and that a lot of hours have to go into an SEO campaign before results start to show. I say this because it’s very gratifying to watch a client’s website move up in Google and finally reach page one. (#1) Plus, knowing that a competing website would have to work extra hard on their own SEO just in order to compete is very rewarding as most either give up or don’t know how to compete against our team here at SEO Professors. So how long does it take? It can take months before a client starts to see improved search rankings and many months (depending on the keywords) before your number one. “It’s a slow process but when you’re at the top you want it to be slow, that way you stay at the top!”
